We all began with natural creative expression ….

As a little child, expressing oneself came easily and naturally. There was nothing to strive for … simply express, and just be …

If hungry, sleepy, sick or lonely, all that was needed to express these feelings was a bellyful of breath and then the little vocal chords would resound and filled the space. The little face would be animated adding color to the vocal expression.

The body then would add to this creative orchestration with arms flailing, and limbs reaching the sky and body contorting to draw attention and give added expression.

A few moments later this could have changed dramatically with face glowing, eyes shining, lips smiling and gentle adorable cooing sounds. Fingers would gently  reach , tenderly touch, learning from every color, texture and shape. Bliss, learning, comfort and care were easy to reach.

Then an few years down the chronological track, after many reprimands and demands from parents, older children, teachers and adults …..  that original expression got atrophied , dulled, paralyzed, withdrawn and was hidden away….. sometimes for a lifetime!

Yes we are all human, and subject to error, sometimes even with the best of intentions… and blame is easiest to add to the game.  Yet can we change the past ? the way we see it, perhaps yes. yet every step we take, is a step in learning and experiencing, and not much is really lost, and is adding to our human experience.

Can we regain our innate creative expression ? I absolutely believe we can, and giving ourselves a little time, effort, care and kindness, we can look forward to a glorious reclaiming of our natural creative expression. It may not always be easy, especially if there are strong emotional issues or blocks that hold you back.  Yet it is very possible and a cause worthy of a few initial failures if we do see them that way, for truly  to be creative is to be ready to fail. Life offers no guarantees ….  it does offer us a canvas of Life  and the colors of our expression….  so lets give it our best, move, voice and  paint through Life with zest !
